March Art Break Programs 2011
The Varley Art Gallery offers March Break programs for the creative and curious child looking to expand their understanding of the world we live in through art making and experimenting. Programs are designed to stimulate, provoke and build confidence while using the fundamentals of design and art as a base.
Half-Day Sessions for Age 4-6 Full-Day Sessions for Age 7-12 Full-week for Age 9-13
Half-day and Full-day classes are held at the Varley Art Gallery. Full-week classes are held at the McKay Art Centre.

| Half-Day Sessions for Age 4-6: |
|
Register for a 3-hour hands-on studio program and take your art creations home. Morning programs run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and afternoon programs run from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Cost per program: $26.50 for non-members $23.85 for members $28.50 for non-residents
Please have the kids dressed in art-friendly clothing or art smocks and pack a nut-free snack or lunch if applicable. This is a drop-off program. All materials included.

Sculpture Factory- Monday Mar. 14

| Work in 3D! Design and create sculpture in plastecine, clay and a variety of other everyday materials. Learn techniques of relief and additive sculpture, and build to your hearts content! |

| The perfect class for your young artist to be introduced to the magic of drawing. Kids will create artworks such as still life drawings and self-portraits. As they discover the world around them, drawing sharpens their observation and spatial skills. |

Ready, Set, Paint! - Wednesday Mar. 16

| Explore the fundamentals of colour and design, examining various painting techniques and mediums. Students will work in watercolour, acrylic and tempera paints, studying different styles of painting from traditional to more modern forms. |

All Mixed Up! - Friday Mar. 18

| Young artists will be introduced to projects that incorporate a variety of materials, both natural and synthetic used in every day life. Each project will help kids see art and the world we live in, in a new perspective. |

Cost per program: $48.00 for non-members $43.20 for members $50.00 for non-residents
Please have the kids dressed in art-friendly clothing and pack a peanut-free snack or lunch if applicable. This is a drop-off program. All materials included.

| Dress for mess and have fun working with clay and other materials to create your own 3-D objects and sculptural masterpieces. Learn different techniques for creating forms, including coil, pinch and modelling methods. Explore surface design and various decoration styles. |

| Drawing and designing are important aspects of creativity, and kids are encouraged to let their imagination run wild! Projects include perspective drawing and visual memory exercises. Kids also learn that a pencil isn't the only tool you can use to draw! |

Art: Now, Then and Next- Friday

Working in a variety of media, kids will be introduced to the gallery's permanent collection and current exhibition to learn about different styles, media and techniques used in more historical and contemporary art to produce their own artwork. Campers will create one project based on their ideas and imagination of what they think is the next big thing in art.
