Memorandum of Understanding
Between
Markham Stouffville Hospital
And
The Town of Markham
The purpose of this Memorandum of Understanding is to confirm that the Markham Stouffville Hospital and the Town of Markham have identified the Markham Stouffville Hospital campus as a potential site for a Health and Wellness building that would include Town of Markham library and recreational facilities.
The Health and Wellness
facility will consider the following building components;

Indoor Pool
·
Library
·
Fitness Centre
·
Gym
·
Program and
Meeting Rooms (including space for Seniors and Youth)
·
Indoor Ice
(twin pad)
·
Outpatient
rehabilitation programs
·
Clinical
services (asthma, diabetes…)
·
Health services
(weight management, massage therapy, seniors care)
The facility would also
include retail services for related services and determine the possibility of
integrating retail food services.
The provision of land and
the financial support by both organizations will be negotiated.
The Town of Markham and the
Markham Stouffville Hospital recognize that there are many physical,
logistical, programming, financial and security issues that need to be
addressed. All parties acknowledge that
this is a memorandum of understanding only, it is not intended to create any
legal rights between the parties and it is not a legally binding
agreement. The Town of Markham and
Markham Stouffville Hospital will undertake a process that if successful, will
address all issues in greater detail and will require a legally binding
agreement.
Finally, the Town of
Markham and the Markham Stouffville Hospital will commit to work together to
provide a Health and Wellness facility that will contribute toward excellence
in care and customer service continuing to make Markham a healthy, well planned
and economically vibrant community.
