RECOMMENDATION:

THAT the report entitled Update Schedule of Fees and Part-time Wages Policy to Include Angus Glen Community Centre Hall Rental Rates be received;

AND THAT Council approve the proposed rental rates for Angus Glen Community Centre as outlined in the report;

AND THAT the Schedule of Fees and Part-time Wages Policy is revised to reflect these changes;

AND THAT By-law 2002-276, a by-law to impose fees or charges for services or activities provided or done by the Town of Markham, be amended to reflect the Angus Glen Community Centre Rates and Fees;

AND THAT notice to the public is provided in accordance with By-law 2002-275, a by-law to prescribe the form and manner and times for the provision of reasonable notice.

PURPOSE:

The purpose of this report is to update the policy called the Schedule of Fees and Part-time Wages to include the proposed rental rates for Angus Glen Community Centre only.  This amendment is for the rental rate component only and does not affect the wage components of the policy.

BACKGROUND:

The Angus Glen Community Centre officially opened on February 12, 2005.  The Schedule of Fees and Part-time Wages as well as Hall Rental policies for renting the gyms, meeting rooms and activity rooms require the inclusion of this new facility.

Staff reviewed the following information in developing the proposed pricing recommendations for the rental of the facility.

Comparison to Armadale Community Centre Gym, Crosby Community Centre, Centennial Community Centre, Thornhill Community Centre and Markham Village Community Centre halls and meeting rooms.

Staff used the above-mentioned centres as the internal benchmark for comparing rental prices.  The gym at Armadale is similar in size and the halls and meeting rooms at Crosby, Centennial, Thornhill, and Markham Village provide a good comparison.

For each room the square footage and fire-code capacity was measured and compared to the existing rate structure.  Pricing includes cost of tables and chairs, set-up and clean up and GST.
