SUBJECT:                          2005 Silver Dolphin Award

RECOMMENDATION:

That the report entitled “2005 Silver Dolphin Award” be received;

 

And that Council recognizes Ben Stubbs of the Markham Aquatic Club as the 2005 Silver Dolphin Local and Provincial Award winner based on his outstanding accomplishments;

 

And that Council recognizes Cameron McKendrick of the Markham Aquatic Club as the 2005 Silver Dolphin National and International Award winner based on his outstanding accomplishments;

The Silver Dolphin Award is given annually to an individual(s) or a team that has demonstrated outstanding accomplishments in aquatics. Athletes and coaches are eligible either through performance or long-term contribution. The awards include two levels of outstanding accomplishments. These are:

 

 


The following recipients are being recommended.

 

Local and Provincial Level Award Recipient

 

BEN STUBBS won the following medals at the Junior Provincial Championship, the highest level of competition in Ontario.  The meet is held twice a year; one short course (25 metre pool) and one long course (50 metre pool). 

 

Long Course Medals

Bronze – 100 metre Backstroke,

Silver medal in 200 metre Backstroke and 100 metre Butterfly

Bronze medal in 200 metre Butterfly;

 

Short Course Medal

Gold Medal in the 200 metre Backstroke.

 

No other swimmer from the Town of Markham in the 13 – 14 years of age category has won more medals than Ben Stubbs.

 

National and International Award Recipient

 

CAMERON MACKENDRICK is an exceptional swimmer and has proven to be one of the best Breaststroke swimmers in Canada for the 16 – 17 years of age category. Cameron won a silver medal in the 100 metre Breaststroke at the Canadian Eastern Championships. Cameron is ranked in the top 20 for Breaststroke in Canada for the following events:

 

Short course (25 metre)

8th in 50 metre

11th in 100 metre and

18th in 200 metre

 

Long course (50 metre)

6th in 50 metre;

8th in 100 metre and

20th in 200 metre

 

Cameron was the only Markham swimmer to win a medal at the National level in 2005.
