The Committee was advised that Ms. Jane Perdue, Consultant, has reviewed the draft of the Municipal Public Art Plan with Linda Irvine, and Val Shuttleworth, Director of Planning and Urban Design which will include the submission and/or suggestions from Committee members.

John Ryerson noted that the current list of “Features and Elements” in the draft Municipal Public Art Plan is fairly extensive and suggested the information be grouped by Markham Wide Elements and by neighborhoods in order to make it easier for residents to look at.

4.         2007 ENVIRONMENTAL ART EVENT

Ice Sculptures

The Chair suggested Committee Members contact the following organizations for input:

·        Yorkville BIA – Sean Colangelo

·        Tourism Toronto – Tom Giantsopoulos

·        City of Ottawa – Elizabeth Chong

·        York Tourism – John Ryerson

Committee Members agreed that the following additional areas needed to be researched:

·        Costs of ice

·        Statistics which is the coldest weekend

·        A weather contingency plan (ie tent shelters)

·        Sponsors and a Theme

Regional Councillor Tony Wong noted that due to the number of already scheduled Town events the Committee should not rely heavily on Town staff in terms of organizing the event.

5.         BUILDING A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

John Ryerson provided an update on the event held at Seneca College in conjunction with the Cement Association.  The Town’s display included a number of  images illustrating creative use of cement and a map of the Markham Centre park.  John indicated the Town’s display received a lot of interest from event participants and demonstrated that sustainability can be beautiful and creative.
