2.         MUNICIPAL PUBLIC ART PLAN

Linda Irvine, Manager, Parks & Open Spaces, updated the Committee on the Draft Municipal Public Art Plan advising the chapter on “Features and Elements” still needed additional work.  She reported that a meeting took place with Ms. Jane Perdue, Development Services Managers, Urban Design staff, and the Heritage Manager to gather their suggestion/ input on the Plan.  As a result of this meeting, Linda has some five pages of notes that she will incorporate into the “Features and Elements” chapter and will have Ms. Perdue review it.  Linda advised the Committee that all the Town staff seemed very enthusiastic about the Plan.  She also suggested to the Committee the recommendations in the study need to include comprehensive financial requirements.

Linda suggested the Draft Plan will need to be reviewed one more time by the Committee once the changes are incorporated.  She suggested bringing the revised Plan forward to Development Services Committee on June 12 or 26, 2007.  Linda will contact Ms. Perdue determine her availability.  If Ms. Perdue is not available for either of the dates, Linda will herself present the Plan to Development Services Committee.

Sean Colangelo advised the committee he has a tentative meeting scheduled with the Manager of the Yorkville BIA.  He plans to request a copy of their planning package for The Bloor-Yorkville IceFest which took place February 23-26, 2006.  Regional Councillor Tony Wong suggested Pritti assist Sean in gathering the information from the Yorkville BIA and ensure the following areas are covered at the meeting:

·        Tent rental costs

·        Back-up plan if weather not permitting

Elizabeth Chong advised Committee members she was unsuccessful with the City of Ottawa in terms of getting information on their annual Winter Festival.  Linda Irvine mentioned she has a contact name/telephoned phone number for someone at the City of Ottawa and suggested Elizabeth contact her.

Judi McIntyre volunteered to check the website www.festivalandevents.com for information and suggestions and will report back to the next meeting.

Anderson Coward volunteered to contact the City of Toronto with respect to their annual Ice Sculpture event that takes places at Mel Lastman square and will report back at the next meeting.

There was some discussion to about having the sculptures created on trailer/flatbeds so that they can be transported to different areas within the Town of Markham.
