The eighth meeting of the Markham Public Art Advisory Committee (MPAAC) in 2007 convened at 7:10 p.m. with Tom Giantsopoulos in the Chair.

1. MINUTES OF THE MARKHAM PUBLIC ART ADVISORY COMMITTEE

MEETING HELD JUNE 13, 2007 and JULY 18, 2007

That the minutes of the June 13, 2007 meeting of the Markham Public Art Advisory Committee be deferred to the November meeting due to lack of a quorum.

2. MUNICIPAL PUBLIC ART PLAN

Linda Irvine, Manager, Parks & Open Spaces, advised the Committee that she met with Jane Perdue, Consultant to confirm which sections of the Municipal Public Art Plan they will each finalize. Ms. Irvine advised the draft will be reviewed by Town staff and she anticipates it will be completed by end of November. A Public Information Meeting will take place in the first quarter of 2008.

3. 2008 ENVIRONMENTAL ART EVENT

Mr. Irvine advised the Committee that a report on the 2008 Environmental Art Event is being prepared for the November 6, 2007 Development Services Committee meeting. The report will recommend that the Event be held on February 17 and 18, 2008 at Toogood Pond. Staff will be requesting $20,000.00 in Event funding.

The Committee suggested potential artists be contacted to confirm their availability and to determine their fees. The Committee also suggested developing a sponsorship package to be used when approaching Markham Corporations for funding requests.

4. NOMINATIONS FOR POSITION OF VICE CHAIR

The Committee suggested Sean Colangelo be nominated for the position of Vice Chair. The Committee will consider other nominations before the next meeting on November 14, 2007.

5. NEW BUSINESS

Ms. Irvine reported that on September 11, 2007 she presented a power point presentation to the Development Services Committee providing a brief overview of the public art framework, a history of what has been completed to date and future opportunities. The Committee Clerk will provide hard copies of the presentation to the MPAAC members at the November meeting.

6. DATE FOR NEXT MEETING

The next meeting of the Markham Public Art Advisory Committee will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. in the Ontario Room at the Markham Civic Centre
