The Committee established the following:

1.  Pets will be permitted, however signage will be posted restricting them from all/any food areas.

2.  There must be a Committee liaison between the vendors and the Museum staff at all times.

3.  Vendor parking should be closer to the Pet Fair area.

4.  Outdoor lectures will take place in a tent, to be provided by Anna.

5.  Host a small contest for children, longest tail, look a like, biggest ears, etc.

6.  If it rains on the Saturday, we will move to the Sunday.  Provide a vendor “hotline” for vendors to check in for weather status.

Roaming Cats

Councillor Burke has received a number of concerns from residents regarding roaming cats.

This is considered a bylaw issue.  Officers will be investigating.  In the meantime, Committee members suggested checking with local barns to see if they are interested in barn cats.

UCAN Bins

Councillor Burke and Barbi have suggested that we research the possibility of using the UCAN bins to educate the public on the importance of spaying/neutering.

Contact Corporate Communications and find out more details.

Euthanasia

Sheila contacted the OSPCA regarding humane euthanasia and was advised that all animals are sedated prior to being euthanized.

No further action required.

New Business

Councillor Burke asked for a status update on the Rodeo Bylaw.

Councillor Burke also inquired about the Markham owned shelter.

Terri is concerned with the use of lethal mouse traps in the Civic Centre.  She would prefer to see more humane traps.

Sheila advised that it is out of the municipalities jurisdiction to prohibit them, however staff is attempting to determine if the desired result can be reached through a licensing bylaw.

  Further updates will follow.

Sheila advised that research is still on-going, however we are currently working on the transition to the OSPCA.  Reports will follow at a later date.

Email humane trapping tips to Sheila.  Look into further.
