SUBJECT: Condominium Working Group - Membership

RECOMMENDATIONS:

THAT the following residents of the Town of Markham be appointed to the Markham Association of Townhome Condominium Owners (MATCO) Condominium Working Group: Ed Schollen, Bert Taylor, Brian Gordon, Ray Chan, and Ernie Nyitrai;

AND THAT staff be authorized and directed to do all things necessary to give effect to this resolution.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

Not applicable.

At its meeting of October 9, 2007 Council approved the following resolution with respect to the establishment and membership for a Condominium Working Group to review related condominium issues:

That a Condominium Working Group to identify issues/options with respect to services received and taxes paid by condominiums that the Town of Markham could support and advocate for at the Provincial level be established;

And that the Terms of Reference attached to the staff report entitled “Markham Association of Townhome Condominium Owners (MATCO)” be adopted by the Condominium Working Group for its report;

And that the following composition be approved and the appointments made:

- 3 Councillors (Regional Councillor G. Landon, Councillor J. Virgilio, Councillor D. Horchik, Mayor F. Scarpitti, Ex-Officio)

- 2 MATCO Members

- 1 Non-MATCO Condominium Association Member

- 2 Finance Department Staff, Town of Markham

- 2 Non-Condominium homeowners

- 1-2 Other Town of Markham staff as necessary (Operational Department, etc.);

And that Staff be authorized and directed to do all things necessary to give effect to this resolution.

Advertisements have been placed in the local newspapers for applications from Markham residents to be members on the Markham Association of Townhome Condominium Owners (MATCO) Condominium Working Group. Five applications were received and reviewed by the Council members of the Working Group. The following residents were selected and have agreed to serve: Brian Gordon and Ray Chan as non-condominium homeowners. Two members of the Markham Association of Townhome Condominium Owners (MATCO) were requested to be members and they have also agreed to serve: Ed Schollen and Bert Taylor. The one Non-MATCO Condominium Association Member who has agreed to serve is Mr. Ernie Nyitrai.
