The Development Services Committee, at its meeting held on
Mr. Richard Kendall, Manager, Central District, delivered a PowerPoint
presentation outlining the East Precinct Plan study framework and draft work
program.
There was considerable discussion regarding the proposed composition of
the technical working group and whether there should be any Council
representatives. Regional Councillor Jim Jones and Councillor
Alex Chiu stated their interest of continuing to be involved throughout this
process. Staff advised that the technical working group does not have any
decision authority. Staff also advised that any recommendations and/or options
made by the technical working group will be presented to the Unionville
Subcommittee for approval and then to the Development Services Committee. Staff is recommending that regular monthly
meetings be scheduled (from January to June 2009) with the Unionville
Subcommittee to ensure discussions related to Markham Centre continue.
The Committee discussed the importance of ensuring that both the
Canadian Sports Institute of Ontario (CSIO) programming requirements are
integrated into the revised precinct plan and that the transportation needs are
addressed.

Seconded by Regional Councillor T. Wong
That the Markham Centre East Precinct Plan Up-date Study Framework &
Work Program presentation be received; and
That the Work Program be endorsed; and,
That staff be requested to expedite the process that will advance the
detailed design for CSIO and determine the infrastructure required to support
the transportation needs; and further,
That Chair of the Canadian Sports Institute (CSIO) Sub-committee be appointed as ex-officio to the Unionville Subcommittee
for items related to the Markham Centre.

2. NEXT STEPS
The Committee requested that the Committee Clerk schedule regular
monthly meetings for the Unionville Subcommittee. The meetings will be scheduled on Tuesday
afternoons from
