The Grants
Sub-Committee meeting convened at the hour of 3:10 p.m. with Councillor V.
Burke in the Chair.

Members had before them a request from the Markham Concert Band for a Celebrate Markham grant. The request for a $2,000 grant was for a series of four Concert Band shows at the Unionville Millennium Bandstand on Sunday, August 2, 9, 16 and 23 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The matter had been considered at Council at its meeting held on June 23, 2009 and was referred to the Grants Sub-Committee by the following resolution:
“That the request by the Markham Concert Band for a Celebrate Markham grant be referred to the Grants Subcommittee; and
That the Grant Subcommittee be authorized to award a grant in an amount not to exceed $2,000, if the request meets the Town’s Celebrate Markham grant provisions; and further,
That the Grants Subcommittee and staff assist in determining location where these bands can play.”
Staff advised Committee that the request meets the Town’s Celebrate Markham grant provisions, and Members reviewed various grant amounts that could be awarded.
There was some discussion regarding the location of the concerts, and it was agreed that this matter should be referred to staff.

That a Celebrate Markham grant, in the amount of $1,000, be allocated to the Markham Concert Band for a series of four (4) concerts during the summer of 2009.
