4.   MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES

A.  COMMITTEE INITIATIVES FOR 2009/10

Committee members discussed a number of potential initiatives, including:

-         Hosting an Earth Day event in April

-         Presenting Pesticide workshops

-         Holding regular events at Markville Mall, perhaps once per month or once per quarter, to provide information about Town of Markham programs and get feedback from Town of Markham residents; these events could include an Earth Day event

-         The possibility of partnering with the Unionville BIA to host a combined event with an environmental focus with the Unionville Walking/Pedestrian Day – this could be a large event, with entertainment including a “green” fashion show, involving local businesses, helping them identify their “green” products and practices or identify new ones which might help change behaviour, providing information on available resources such as corn cups, biodegradable products et al

-         Coordinating events with Town of Markham Greenprint initiatives

Chris Sauer will check with local contacts to determine who should be contacted at the Unionville BIA; Philip Ling and Tom Rado will follow up and make contact to propose partnering for a future event.
