Concern was expressed that heritage buildings in Cornell and elsewhere were being boarded up and demolished. Assurance was given that heritage homes may not be serviceable for many years, but they are being restored and integrated into the communities and even non-residential developments. For example a heritage home south of Hwy. 7 will be part of the future VIVA terminal.

A summary of the public comments received (308 in total) at Community meetings, Town Advisory Groups and the Mayors Youth Task Force was presented to DSC in May 2009. A draft Growth Management Strategy is scheduled to go to DSC in September 2009. Further public consultation will take place in Fall 2009. Staff will continue consulting with the public, to ensure residents have opportunities to be involved in the process. A final Strategy is expected to be brought forward for Council approval in Fall 2009/Winter 2010.
GMS workbook results were compiled and although they can not be referenced statistically, they did provide staff with a comfort level that policies being developed were acceptable. The results indicate the community at large is accepting growth.

Concern was expressed for the large area of surface packing available at the hospital and the lack of it elsewhere in Cornell. It was explained that the surface parking areas will meet the short term need. Parking areas are not funded by the Ministry of Health, and that surface parking is less expensive to install than structured parking. The proposed parking will meet needs until 2016; thereafter structured parking will be incorporated as additional facilities are developed.
Bob Baird noted that the construction schedule as presented
posed some problems for 9th line residents. There is a ban on trucks
on 9th line north, and residents at the south end have been lobbying
for some years to extend the ban to the south. As construction traffic is
exempt, residents will have to endure another three years of heavy truck noise
and pollution. He asked if alternative trucking routes could be investigated. MSH will investigate if construction traffic
can be routed off 9th Line, possibly using Hwy. 7 or
TRCA inquired if the MSH would be interested in participating
in a pilot project to look into whether the green roof will filter storm water

Staff will provide an update at the next Advisory
Group meeting as to the status of lands
located at the northwest and southeast corners of Hwy 7 and 9th
Line, and also lands on the west side of 9th Line south of Delmark
Blvd. These lands are believed to be
owned by the Region and MTO. An e-mail
will be sent to R. Baird when information is available.
