The Unionville Sub-Committee convened at 12:50 PM with Councillor D. Hamilton in the Chair without quorum.
1. UNIONVILLE IN-FILL BY-LAW

Regional Councillor Virgilio, Councillor Hamilton, Commissioner Baird,
Dave Miller, Biju Karumanchery, Harry Eaglesham, David Wakeham, Elaine Wilton,
David Huntley, Robin Tinney and Russ Gregory did a walking tour (from
approximately 11:15 AM to 12:30 PM) of the streets in Unionville (Carlton Avenue,
Pomander Road and Callahan Road) to visually observe new homes that are
believed to not be compatible or complementary to the existing community.
There was discussion regarding site plan control versus infill by-law
for the Varley Village area in Unionville.
The residents pointed out that the lot sizes differ from the north side
to the south side on streets such as Pomander Road, and that the infill by-law
or site plan control should only apply to the larger lots.
The Committee discussed lot coverage, set backs, gross floor area ratio
restrictions and architectural design.
Staff advised that they can support an infill by-law and what needs to be determined are the standards to be put forward
into the infill by-law. Staff suggested
using the Thornhill Infill Bylaw as a basis.
The residents inquired about the role of the building inspectors. Staff suggested having someone from the
building department attend a future meeting.
Mr. Dave Miller, Senior Project Coordinator
distributed a revised work program and a history on building permits from 2000
to 2010 for the Varley Village Area.
2. NEXT MEETING
The next Unionville Subcommittee meeting will be scheduled for sometime
during the week of September 6, 2010
